OOC: Canon and Headcanon Facts About HP Werewolves

Canon Facts

1. Transformation happens on the night of the full moon - if taking the Wolfsbane Potion this will only occur under direct moonlight.
2. It is painful to turn into a werewolf. Shifting bones, how could it not be?
3. There is no cure for lycanthropy.
4. Saliva-blood contact between a werewolf-human passes along the curse causing the human to become infected. But only if the werewolf is in its transformed state.
5. Claw marks received from a werewolf are considered cursed and will not heal properly or by magical means.
6. In its wolf state all human reasoning is gone, leaving only a wild beast who will attack anything within reach. If no life-form is nearby a werewolf will turn on itself.
7. Silver is a lie. It doesn't work on HP werewolves. At all. Try it and Remus will look at you funny.
8. The movie version of Remus' werewolf form is a lie.
"A werewolf can be distinguished from a true wolf physically by several small distinguishing characteristics, including the pupils of the eyes, snout shape, and tufted tail."
--Meaning they aren't some mutilated version of a wolf but something fairly close.
9. Wolfsbane Potion was created after Remus' time in school and therefore unavailable to him. Even if he knew he would be unable to perfect one as it is a complicated potion that most qualified wizards are incapable of making.
"Effects: While this potion doesn't cure lycanthropy, it does prevent the extremely dangerous dementia which would otherwise accompany the transformation from human into werewolf."
--"Werewolves take it to alleviate their monthly symptoms (painful transforming and aggressive behaviour). Although it isn't a cure for Lycanthropy, it is a great advancement in potion-making and is one step further toward a cure. It must be taken for the full week before a full moon to have any effect, and sugar makes it useless. The potion was invented by a wizard named Damocles, who received the Order of Merlin and is the uncle of a current Hogwarts student, Marcus Belby."
10. As the full moon draws closer a werewolf will often feel ill.
11. If a human is bitten by a werewolf while they're still in human form they may develop lupine traits. EX: Bill Weasely never healed and developed a craving for really raw meat when bitten by Fenrir in his human shape.
12. The curse can only be passed to a human, meaning animals or humans in animal form (EX: Animagus) are safe from becoming werewolves themselves.
13. Werewolves usually don't breed, most likely a common fear that the child will be a werewolf as well.
14. The Ministry regulates werewolves, taking names for their registry which makes it difficult for them to get by in life.

The Fleet Facts

He wouldn't experience a full change unless he encountered a full moon at a certain distance - which might mean that certain settings (like a planet with five moons all in various cycles) would just be terrible for him, whereas other settings like the one the characters are in now would mean no werewolf change for the time being.

When on a moon - if it's anything like Earth's moon he'd probably have a fever, ache like hell and feel all kinds of shitty. But if it's like Yavin 4 where it has trees or had other structures and stuff like that, he'd be fine unless there are other moons visible in the sky.
